Example of a Merchandiser Job Description
INTRODUCTION:
- Company overview: Founding vision, current state of affairs, size, relevant stats.
- Role mission: Goals, team and resources to make it happen.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze consumer data and sales trends to create effective merchandising strategies that maximize revenue.
- Collaborate with buyers, suppliers, and category managers to select and source products for retail or eCommerce platforms.
- Plan and execute inventory management, ensuring stock availability and minimizing overstock or shortages.
- Optimize product presentation and placement on eCommerce platforms or in-store displays to enhance customer engagement.
- Track the performance of products and promotions, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
- Monitor competitor strategies and adapt pricing or promotions to maintain competitiveness.
- Coordinate with marketing teams to align campaigns and promotions with merchandising plans.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- 2–4 years of experience in merchandising, buying, or retail management, ideally in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in inventory management tools, such as SAP, Oracle, or similar systems.
- Excellent understanding of consumer behavior and market trends.
- Experience working with eCommerce platforms, such as Shopify, Magento, or BigCommerce.
- Solid organizational and communication skills to coordinate with cross-functional teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field.
Nice to Have:
- Familiarity with visual merchandising principles for both online and physical stores.
- Experience with sales forecasting tools or data visualization platforms like Tableau or Power BI.
- Knowledge of logistics and supply chain processes to manage stock efficiently.
- Skills in content creation or graphic design tools for crafting compelling product displays.
- Exposure to global sourcing and sustainable supply chains.
- Understanding of pricing algorithms or dynamic pricing models to enhance profitability.
